Movie set to star in better company

Bryan Smart's Moviesta has two potential options after his thrilling win at York last week. The improving sprinter could return to the Knavesmire for the valuable Charity Sprint Trophy, run recently as the Reg Bond Trophy, or go for the Listed Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock. Ritchie Fiddes, who owns the gelding in partnership with Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp and sports agent Will Salthouse, feels it may be wise to strike while the iron is hot. "The only options for him in the next month are the big sprint at York over six furlongs which is worth 100,000 on June 15, or the Listed Sandy Lane on June 8," said Fiddes. "We could give him a break as he's had three runs this season but if he doesn't run in one of those there's not much about for him really. At some stage we'll have to take the decision whether to keep him against his own age or tackle his elders. "When Hoof It won the Ralph Raper off 72 the race was a 0-80, well Moviesta won it off 87 with the race as a 0-90 so it looks a hotter race. "We think he's Listed or Group class and when Paul (Mulrennan), who we sponsor, got off him I've never seen him so excited. He's as good over five or six furlongs, so at least we've got that option." Fiddes owns a share of veteran sprinter Ancient Cross, also successful at the Dante meeting, and he is likely to return to York this weekend for the Spring Sprint Handicap. "Ancient is likely to go back to York this week for a 0-105, 50,000 race," said Fiddes. "We're not sure about the Wokingham, I'd love a runner but we still haven't decided. Paul has struck up a good partnership with him and the key to last week was that he broke really well and wasn't playing catch-up." Read More...
