With the focus turning towards Breeders’ Cup for the second half of 2013, Joel and Jon discuss the early players in the Classic division following the major returns last week of such top contenders as Fort Larned, Paynter, Royal Delta, Mucho Macho Man, and others. Watch it. Comment.

    Hi Joel,
Your comment makes sense about the turf, didn’t realize conditions on the grass are so different from here. As far as AK acting stud-ish, well, suffice it to say his mind was else where, after all, he is a teenager.

I agree with you about Paynter, I think after everything he went through, he will be a sentimental favorite also. Look forward to the summer races and then the Breeders Cup. Should be interesting. Take care my friend.
    Kind Regards,

Yeah they really are, JR. I can’t say I’ve ever been over there to walk any of the turf courses in Europe, but they’ve always been described to me by Europeans as being much more lush & thick, taller/deeper, stronger type of grass, and what they consider “good/firm” is what we would probably consider yielding because those courses are so much softer due to the fact they get more rain and holds more moisture. It really takes a certain type to handle it, and their pedigrees are tailor made for those conditions.

My guess is Paynter will try a G2 or G3 next and then be pointed for the Whitney at Saratoga, we’ll see! Should be a fun summer. Best -JC

Great show. Hopefully this means you’ll be on weekly from now on. Joel, what was on the belt you were wearing?

    • Joel Cunningham

Ha! Wore my SEC belt, so those are the 14 school logos. Too bad racehorses in training don’t have logos to make a good horse racing belt!
