Cadeaux back on Cup trail

Red Cadeaux drops right back in trip to 10 furlongs as he chases more glory in Sunday's Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji. Ed Dunlop's seven-year-old was last seen in action finishing third over two miles in the Grade One Tenno Sho at Kyoto racecourse in Japan in April. That race represented a big step up in distance on his previous outing, when he chased home Animal Kingdom in the mile-and-a-quarter Dubai World Cup at Meydan in March. Red Cadeaux previously won the 12-furlong Hong Kong Vase at the end of last term but he has demonstrated his versatility on more than one occasion during a career which has seen him amass 3.2million in prize-money. Dunlop said: "Reports I'm getting from over there are very encouraging. The horse had a little blow-out on Thursday morning on the grass and Robin (Trevor-Jones, assistant) said it had poured with rain before so the ground wasn't firm. "We've been drawn seven which I think is OK, so by all accounts everyone is very happy with him." Dunlop is not concerned by the drop in distance but rates the likes of Mario Hofer's Pastorius and Hong Kong raider Military Attack highly. He said: "There's the Prix Ganay winner (Pastorius) in there and the QEII winner from Hong Kong (Military Attack), so it's competitive. We're back to a mile and a quarter, having run two miles in Japan last time, so it's rather strange, but back to the trip of the Dubai World Cup where he ran so well. It's a sharp track but an extremely valuable race. He'd travelled so well and loved it all so much we thought it was an easy thing to do to do that on the way home." Red Cadeaux is joined in the line-up by two British compatriots, the Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained Mull Of Killough and Godolphin's Hunter's Light. Chapple-Hyam is taking a big leap in class with her charge but after winning the Earl of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket on his return, the Suffolk handler thinks he deserves a shot at Group One honours. She told At The Races: "I suppose we are a Group Three horse stepping up, admittedly, but we've carried penalties in two Group Threes and a Listed race. Going to Chester probably would have been the obvious but when you get an invitation you don't get these chances very often, so you have to take it. "I think he can (step up). He's drawn in stall eight of 13 and we've just got to ride for a bit of luck in the first furlong and hope that we slot in about fifth or sixth. Ideally I would have liked stall three or four but that wasn't to be, the cards are dealt and you've got to play with them. He's in really good form. He put about three kilos on so that's got to be a good indication he's eating and hydrating well, so that's a major plus." Read More...
