Gold fails to sparkle

African Gold met with another defeat as he fell on his second start over fences in the Quicksilverslots Play �500 Roulette Novices’ Chase at Uttoxeter.

Second to At Fisher’s Cross in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham in March, Nigel Twiston-Davies’ charge was well beaten in a hot race at Cheltenham on his reappearance last month.

African Gold was sent off the 1-2 favourite to make amends but crashed out three fences from home, with Tim Vaughan’s Milborough (8-1) taking the victory.

Earlier on the card, David Pipe’s Legacy Gold (8-13 favourite) made a winning start to her jumping career in the Quicksilverslots Get Up To 200 Freeplays Mares’ Maiden Hurdle.

Bought by Roger Brookhouse for �210,000 after winning at Aintree last April, she had finished third at Cheltenham on her reappearance but beat Flementine by four and a half lengths in the hands of Tom Scudamore here.
