Hi Joel – Breeders Cup only 4 wks. away! This weekend will tell alot about the Juvenile Division, Sprint Division, and Mile Division. I am getting my list ready for BC Nov. 1 beginning with BC Turf Sprint. I will be be betting those 6 races. I see 4 top contenders for BCC. #1 Shared Belief – very good, but beatable favorite. #2 Tonalist – Blinkers off, major contender. #3 – Toast of N.Y. likely to be at least 10-1. He has tactical speed, rested, he will get the 1 1/4. I believe he has a big shot. #4 California Chrome – rested, loves SA, hoping he draws outside. Joel – What are your views of Toast of New York?

Hey Joe! Glad to hear from you as we close in on the BC. I question Toast of New York’s ability over a tight and fast dirt track like SA’s. We don’t know until we see it, but I would be leery with his pedigree and affinity for the synthetic track that he could show the same ability over real dirt.

With that said, many of the big players have obviously gotten injured or are not in top form. California Chrome appeared to be a bit crabby behind in the footage I saw of him training before the Penn Derby. I am not here to spread rumors because I have no knowledge that he is anything other than 100%, and I know he can train choppy up front which is just him and has always been him. But I would definitely be concerned now after that performance that perhaps his best form is not right now. I hope I’m wrong, and you’re right that he loves SA so perhaps they’ll have him on his A game 4 weeks from now.

Good luck this weekend Joe! Can’t wait to get out to Keeneland tomorrow and see how their new dirt track plays! I have a hunch from talking to horsemen around here that it’s going to be very fast, which means that it could be very speed favoring. I will be betting speed at the start and see how it plays out from there.
