Trappe Shot took another big step towards stakes company with a 12 3/4-length romp in an entry-level allowance race Mar. 21st at Gulfstream. It marked the talented colt’s second win in as many starts by a combined 23 lengths, as he broke his maiden on Feb. 21st by 10 1/4 lengths at the Miami oval.
An $850,000 sale-topping 2-year-old a year ago, Trappe Shot has a strong pedigree for the Classics, hailing from the second crop of top sire Tapit. He is also out of the Grade 1-producing mare Shopping, who is the dam of Miss Shop, a Grade 1 winner at 10 furlongs. Seemingly pointed for the April 24 Withers (G3) at a mile at Aqueduct, can Trappe Shot do what champion Bernardini did in 2006 — go from Gulfstream, to the Withers, and then win the Preakness?
