TCI Top 10

Rank Name Bris Comments
1 Constitution 97 Going against Derby history in many ways, but he may have the greatest talent and upside of the bunch.
2 California Chrome 106 Deserving Derby favorite after back-to-back fast and dominant victories, but has he peaked a month too early?
3 Samraat 99 Wood performance was typical of his runs in the Withers & Gotham; Needs more on May 3rd, but he’s capable.
4 Conquest Titan 93 A strong closing run under Borel in the Arkansas Derby would put him right back in the thick of things.
5 Social Inclusion 106 Stays on list for now but likely to come off without enough Derby points; If so, he’s a huge threat in Preakness.
6 Cairo Prince 100 Zero punch in the FL Derby raises serious concerns about him being over the top, and his chances to draw in.
7 Wicked Strong 103 Relished a return to AQU and rewarded those who stuck with him since the Remsen; Will need his AQU form, not GP form.
8 Tapiture 99 Likes Churchill and has been the best 3yo at Oaklawn up to this point; Distance, not quality, could be main hurdle.
9 Hoppertunity 99 Consistent and solid, just not sure he’s destined to be top class; Will be a wise-guy horse in Louisville.
10 Intense Holiday 99 The track & race didn’t favor his style in La. Derby, but the KY Derby will favor his style; Still needs a big forward step.

    Hey Joel,
Now Constitution is off the derby trail, boy I tell you, I never know what to expect when I go to Bloodhorse. I think the handicappers are scratching their heads about now. Well be interested in your follow up to all this. Take care my friend.

Hello JR, very disappointing rash of injuries among the 3yos this year that has definitely left the Derby division lacking the star power it’s use to having.

On a positive note, any Derby in the spring time is awesome! We’ll still have 20 in the gate and it will be a great and sporting betting race like always, and, who knows, maybe we’ll see a star emerge like Animal Kingdom did. I am hopeful!

Joel, What do you make of Danza’s performance last week? Looked like a derby type horse that can lay back of the pace a few lengths and make a run turning for home. However, I know distance and experience could be a concern given he got a great trip last time out. Im still trying to figure out how much speed we could see with Samraat, Wildcat Red, Cal Chrome, and Vicars In Trouble all expected to be up front early. Do you still see this as a race with alot of early speed now that horses like Bayern and SI are out? If we do get decent fractions I could see Wicked Strong making a good run down the stretch. Also what do you make of Mike Smith choosing the Hopper over Intense Holiday.
