X-rays taken on Tuesday morning revealed that Starlight Stables’ Algorithms has a fractured splint in his right front leg. The injury will require surgery, and he is shipping to Ocala on Wednesday where Dr. John Madison of Ocala Equine Hospital will perform the procedure.

An undefeated son of Bernardini, Algorithms was scratched out of Sunday’s Fountain of Youth Stakes (G1) the morning of the race. In his most recent start, Algorithms won the Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park.

“We are hoping that he only requires a minimal amount of time off,” said trainer Todd Pletcher in a Gulfstream Park press release, “but he is definitely not going to make the Triple Crown.”

Jack Wolf of Starlight Racing, said: “It is very disappointing that he will have to miss the spring classics, but we look forward to having him back in late summer or early fall. This really is the best long term option for Algorithms.”
