Cadeaux strives to rule the world

Trainer Ed Dunlop accepts Red Cadeaux "has a mountain to climb" when he contests the Dubai World Cup at Meydan on Saturday. The much-travelled seven-year-old has already won nearly 1.8million in prize-money in an outstanding career and will now get the chance to shine in the richest race on the planet. Dunlop told the Sun: "He's an amazing horse. He won his first race off a mark of 72, and now he is running in the world's richest race." He went on: "It will be his first race (of the season) in Dubai. We know he has a mountain to climb. He was entered for the Sheema Classic but we thought that could be even more competitive." Dunlop's travelling head lad Robin Trevor-Jones watched Red Cadeaux exercise on Monday. He said: "He seems in good form and his rider said that was the best he has felt since he arrived on Sunday last week. "He did a canter over 1800 metres and the plan may be to exercise him on grass on Wednesday or Thursday." A field of 13 has been confirmed for the weekend, with plenty of other British interest, as Marco Botti's Planteur and the Andrew Balding-trained outsider Side Glance are also in the reckoning. Meandre goes for France, Treasure Beach for South Africa, while there will be a crack North American trio of Dullahan, former Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom and champion mare Royal Delta. The remainder of the field comes from Godolphin trainers Mahmood Al Zarooni and Saeed bin Suroor through hot fancy African Story, Capponi, Hunter's Light, Kassiano and last year's winner Monterosso.
